Rescue Efforts Halted at Lagos Building Collapse.

The operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency known as LSEMA has ended rescue operations at the Lagos Building Collapse site.

According to THISDAY, the death toll is now 14 after a man was recovered at 3am who was buried underneath the rubble.

As at press time, however, there has been  conflicting figures concerning the survivors, with most of the emergency agencies declining to clarify the standing of the living and therefore the dead.

According to them, their reluctance to place a figure to the fatality and casualty rates was as a result of a number of the survivors were brought out alive later died, adding that primary responders (neighbours) already carried out some rescue work before the professionals came.

While debunking claims that folks were still trapped, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Tiamiyu Adesina, said that operations are complete.

Adesina said “The operation was wrapped up when the last body was brought out by 3a.m. However he added “That the machines reached ground zero and then rescue work was called off.

He added that their reluctance to reel out figures was to avoid giving conflicting reports, that was why they’re waiting for the ministry of health to harmonise the figures.

Some heavy duty vehicles are mobilised to the positioning to filter out the remaining rubble, therefore signalling the ultimate stage of rescue work.
